Our mission is defined by moments of humility and humanity. See the difference we are making in the Kansas City community.
“You noticed me.”
Wally was getting ready to take his own life when Kimberly, one of our case managers, introduced herself at the bus stop. They got to talking, and that’s when Wally shared that he was seriously contemplating suicide. Kimberly gave him her card, told him to stop by Reconciliation Services the next day, and offered case management services. Wally accepted and said, “Thanks. Everybody else made me feel invisible, but you noticed me.”
Love to the End
“No amount of thought will ever result in any greater formulation than the three words, ‘Love one another,’ so long as it is love to the end and without exceptions.” — Mother Maria of Paris
"Time to let go and move forward"
During the most difficult chapter of her life, Kendra came to Reconciliation Services to get help paying her light bill. She also signed up for our women's therapy group, which is where she found the strength she needed to begin to rebuild her life. "The support and the love that you get... I just love it."
Co-Suffering & the Hike Against Hunger
How far would you go to fight hunger? On Saturday, November 7, at 1 AM, Father Justin Mathews, Executive Director of Reconciliation Services, set out with the KC Heart of America team led by Dr. Paul Chan to hike the Grand Canyon, 50 miles in 24 hours, to raise awareness and funds to combat food insecurity and hunger in our community.
Every Vote Counts, Every ID Matters
Did you know that without an ID you can’t access benefits, apply for food assistance, apply for a job or housing, secure healthcare, enroll your kids in school, visit a sick child in the hospital, or even get a library card ... let alone vote?
Resilient, Virtual, & Ready
Before COVID-19 forced strict limitations on schools and early education facilities, 68 Foster Grandparents served as role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs in classrooms at 27 sites across the Kansas City metro. They plan to do every thing they can to keep support the young people they work with, even if it is virtual.
Acknowledging White Privilege: An Act of Veneration
Ed, a middle aged white man from North Carolina, took the microphone and said, “I frequently observe in myself a lot of racism…”
“See the person, not just the need.”
“I learned that when you see someone having a hard day, it’s important to see the person, and not just the need. Every neighbor I’ve met at RS has made an impact upon me in ways I'll probably never fully understand.”
A Haircut and a Breath of Fresh Air: #RevealStrength
"I usually look A LOT better than this," a neighbor recently declared to one of our REVEAL case managers, Frank Zwirlein. After a month of bureaucratic hoop jumping, Frank and his client were finally able to get access to his social security benefit.

COVID-19 Impact: Escalating Client Needs
Kimberly Henderson, Client Care Supervisor here at RS, shares about escalating client needs during COVID-19. "...for our most vulnerable neighbors, I feel there is more suicidal ideation and morbid depression as individuals are forced to isolate.” Read more…
COVID-19 Impact: Evictions on the Rise in Kansas City
When COVID-19 hit and shelter-at-home orders began on March 24 in Kansas City, MO, we knew our low-income and already vulnerable neighbors would soon find themselves in even more desperate circumstances. That time is now.

Video highlights from the KC Chamber “POWER of Diversity 2020” event featuring a discussion on racial equity in KC and Reconciliation Services.
A Look Back & A Way Forward
There are lots of versions of the history of Troost circulating these days to support new developments and interests on Troost, but if you omit the history of marginalization and oppression of people of color… are justice, opportunity for all, and community healing possible?
“So Much Good to Give.”
Older adults with more positive self-perceptions of aging live 7.5 years longer than those with less positive self-perceptions of aging, according to recent Yale University research. That's just one of the benefits…
