COVID-19 Impact: Thelma’s Kitchen Goes On Serving

This week is Thelma’s Kitchen’s BIRTHDAY (2 years old!) and we are excited to have re-opened on Monday, August 17, with extensive health precautions in place and more conveniences for you than ever before.

Since COVID-19 began, we've had to make constant changes in Thelma's Kitchen to ensure the health and safety of our staff and guests. But through every adjustment, we have never lost sight of our core mission: giving our neighbors access to affordable, healthy food, and nurturing relationships that lift up our neighbors and support the work of RS.

Here's how Thelma’s Kitchen is celebrating its birthday and serving our community this week (& God willing for the foreseeable future):

  • Our cafe is open Monday - Friday, 11am - 2 pm serving box lunches from our new to-go window on the 31st St. side of the cafe (donate-what-you-can for lunch: $3 minimum, $11 suggested price which goes to support social and mental health services.)

  • NEW: You can order Thelma's Box Lunch online at www.thelmasboxlunch.org (go check it out!), pick up quickly at our cafe (3101 Troost Ave.), and enjoy at your leisure!

  • NEW: Order Thelma's Box Lunch online for your next business meeting or community gathering. Looking for a delicious & convenient group lunch option, that also supports a great, local cause? Here it is!

Thelma's Kitchen relies on community support to fulfill our mission. Here are two ways you can help:

  • NEW: We reworked our daily volunteer positions to minimize person-to-person interaction and are requiring masks, gloves, and social distancing. Volunteers will only work behind the scenes. If you're looking for a safe, meaningful way to serve during this crisis – sign up now.

  • Check out our Amazon Wishlist and consider donating a few items (a birthday present!) to help us serve our neighbors. It's fun, online shopping... for a great cause!

Please enjoy this slideshow of all the exciting things going on at Thelma’s Kitchen and order your lunch today at www.thelmasboxlunch.org:

If you find yourself in a position to give during these trying times, please consider making a donation to Reconciliation Services of just $25 a month. We can make it through this if we stick together and support one another (especially those who are most vulnerable.) Thank you.
