Community Building
Reconciliation Services is involved in many community building activities and maintains an holistic multi-systemic approach. Resilience studies show that for sustained change, supportive relationships are essential. Thus, connecting a client to a supportive, relational community is one of our outcomes. Whether connecting them to Troost Folks on Thursday night (a local 12-step group), a group of volunteers, a local community organization, or a spiritual community, the goal is the same — relational, interactive, empathic support! Some examples of Reconciliation Services community building are:
- Facilitating weekly meetings for Troost Folks, a grassroots coalition being formed on Troost, and monthly participation in Troost Alliance, a social service alliance;
- Bringing positive media attention through the coordination of the annual Troost Avenue Festival;
- Creating a positive community environment every Friday night by providing a decent meal for anyone who is willing to come and socialize. We are able to make this happen through the ongoing generosity of six area Orthodox Christian parishes within the Greater Kansas City area.
